About Stephen F. Cohen, DAc (RI)*, MSOM, LAc

Stephen
A nationally board certified and state licensed Acupuncturist, Stephen graduated with Honors from TSCA in New York City. He focuses on helping his patients understand why discomfort, illness or disease manifest in their lives and how to help them heal in a balanced and holistic way. Through acupuncture, other modalities, and coaching, Stephen treats and encourages his patients to return to their truest self and wellbeing.

Stephen is trained in various styles of acupuncture including Traditional Chinese Medicine and Trigger Point Dry Needling, and specializes in advanced Japanese techniques developed by Kiiko Matsumoto. This systematic, effective, palpatory method provides instant feedback, and embraces the advance of modern medicine as part of the diagnosis and treatment process. As a world-renowned style, it’s the only acupuncture approach currently taught at Harvard Medical School. Stephen has had the unique privilege of learning and practicing under the direct supervision of Kiiko Matsumoto in the United States and Japan.

Through his comprehensive training and experience, Stephen’s expertise includes fertility and other aspects of reproductive health for men and women, sports medicine, and internal conditions. He is able to have such diversity through the combination of his extensive background in the field, believing in the importance of integrative medicine, and intuitive understanding of the body and mind. Training programs Stephen has completed to advance his knowledge and skills include a two year internship at The Holistic Health Center, and certificates in Oncology Acupuncture at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Acupuncture for Labor and Delivery held at Lutheran Hospital. Other trainings include Zero Balancing, Reiki, and Advanced Pulse Diagnosis. He has also studied in Japan with Master Practitioner Kawaii, and others well known in the field of Acupuncture.

Additionally, Stephen has cofounded Changing Health, Inc.—a national nonprofit that provides acupuncture to underserved communities. He also provides workshops and trainings on a variety of topics. Previous roles include Advisory Board member of a college specializing in acupuncture, and supporting didactic lectures and clinical supervision.

Stephen maintains his certification and license in Connecticut, Indiana, New York, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Virginia.

For almost a decade, Stephen worked for top accounting firms—Arthur Andersen LLP, Deloitte LLP, and Ernst & Young LLP—as a Tax Manager in Mergers and Acquisitions. After his own successful experience with acupuncture and herbology, Stephen left this field for his true calling – East Asian Medicine.

* Stephen is not a Medical Doctor. He is a Doctor of Acupuncture (RI), a Licensed Acupuncturist (CT, IN, NY, VA) and the state of South Carolina does not issue a professional designation for Acupuncturists or Herbalists.

About Christine Aziz, MS, LAc

Bio PhotoChristine is a graduate of Tri-State College of Acupuncture. Her academic training put a strong emphasis on hands on practice, while offering the opportunity to learn three different styles of acupuncture: Traditional Chinese Medicine, Kiiko Matsumoto Japanese Acupuncture, and Acupuncture Physical Medicine with Trigger Point Acupuncture. At Tri-State, Christine had the fortune of studying closely with the supervision of Kiiko Matsumoto. Outside of school, Christine also had the privilege of interning at Axiom Acupuncture in Manhattan for over two years. Christine is currently completing her second and final year of the Oriental Medicine program at Tri-State where she learns Chinese Herbs and Kanpo (a Japanese tradition of herbal medicine).

Being a dancer for the majority of her life has built a strong curiosity of the body. After graduating from the University of Maryland with her BA in Dance, she moved to New York to pursue her career in Modern Dance. She quickly became a yoga teacher to help support her dancing. Her yoga studies brought her more knowledge and understanding of the relationship between the body, mind, and spirit. She found she was often recommending acupuncture to students who would approach her after class with questions regarding an injury. Finally she realized that her own interest in acupuncture had been stoked. It seemed like the natural progression.
